Meeting the promise of carbon storage

In the fourth segment of our Helmholtz Alberta video series, we profile U of A geotechnical engineer Rick Chalaturnyk, who discusses the challenges of storing CO2 in the ground. The Helmholtz Alberta Initiative is a major international partnership aiming to find solutions to challenges in oilsands and coal production that face society, science and industry. There are now six active research themes that encompass the initiative: bitumen and lignite upgrading, carbon capture, carbon storage, geothermal energy, sustainable oilsands water management, and mine site reclamation and landscape development.
